Applying to Nursing School
If you are applying to nursing
school or thinking about it, this article can offer you some
suggestions. You need to decide early about your application
and get it done as soon as you possibly can even if you are not
planning to go to nursing school right away. So many people are
applying to nursing school’s 2 year programs that many of them
have very long waiting lists already.
Do not worry if you are told that
you are on a waiting list, there are always some who will not
enroll and others who will drop out of the program so your
chance is still good for getting in. You have a better chance
for getting in to the program you want if you start applying to
nursing school at least a year ahead of time. This also gives
you time to take refresher courses if you need to.
Get in touch with the schools
that you have interest in and explain to them that you are
interested in applying to nursing school. They can send you all
of the information that you need to apply and they can also set
up an appointment for you to come in for an interview. You can
ask questions and have them answered by heads of the nursing
department and other staff members. They will also be able to
give you exact information about what courses and requirements
must be met before you can be accepted.
It is necessary to be at least a
high school graduate or to at least have a GED if you are
thinking of applying to nursing school. If you are just
graduating high school you will need to be sure they get copies
of your school transcripts. People who have been out of school
for a while can talk with the staff at the school of their
choice. They will let you know how to get your old transcripts,
and what if any entrance tests might be required.
Nursing schools are not looking
for straight “A”students. You do need to have a good grasp and
understanding of English. You will be required to take some
math and science courses in addition to the nursing core
courses. If you are very weak in these areas, you might need to
take some refresher courses to prepare for school. If you are
really serious about making nursing your career, nothing can
stop you.
